Technology Clutter

 Technology clutter should be a 'word', shouldn't it? Taking stock of the number of pieces of technology 'gear' in our possession can be quite interesting. Here's a checklist:

* Fitbit, Apple Watch, or similar device
* Cellphone(s)
* Tablet(s)
* Game console(s)
* Computer(s)
* Streaming Device(s) - Roku, etc.
* Smart Appliances - TV, Stove, Refrigerator, Cleaning devices
* Cable modem, router, Wifi devices
Now compound this with each of these devices being connected to the Internet, to each other over Wi-Fi networks, to mobile devices over applications, and each device requiring security and operational updates. Heavens to Murgatroyd! What a mess of mesh!
Imagine the time required to design, build, program, distribute, support, update - Jenga blocks anyone? What is the tipping point for the technology pendulum? And when do we say enough?
A rather serious question to ask ourselves is just how prepared are we for a collapse, either major or minor, in the technology infrastructure? Do alternate means of accomplishing tasks exist without the use of technology?
Another question, also difficult, is just how much of the 'old ways' have we retained, and is it ever possible to conduct business and live our lives the 'old way'?
How long would it take, or is it even possible to recover and continue after a mass technology failure event? (MTFE) Perhaps the Amish and Mennonites of the world will be 'King of the Castle' after all!
The count for our household is:
* Fitbit, Apple Watch, or similar device - 5
* Cellphone(s) - 6
* Tablet(s) - 1
* Game console(s) - 5
* Computer(s) - 5
* Streaming Device(s) - Roku, etc. - 7
* Smart Appliances - TV, Stove, Refrigerator, Cleaning devices - 2
* Cable modem, router, Wifi devices - 3
Total devices: 34!
Please feel free to use this list to compare your household with ours!
