Birds At The Feeder

Birds are interesting creatures to observe. We started with one bird feeder in our backyard before my back surgery in 2016, and watching the birds at the feeder helped to pass the time during my recuperation. One bird feeder was not enough though.

Soon we purchased another, and then another, and then we discovered the neighborhood squirrels loved the bird feeders as well, and emptied them faster than the birds could eat the seed. So, the next feeders were squirrel proof, and these squirrel proof feeders work very well.

Birds of all colors and sizes  gather at the feeders. It does not matter the time of the day, month of the year, season, or weather. The birds gather together, and occasionally squabble over the seeds. These squabbles are generally short lived, and when the weather turns cold, and the wind blows hard, like it does here in Western New York, the birds can be found nestling together for safety and warmth. If there is danger nearby, one, or many signal to the others and they all try to escape, returning to snuggle together when the danger has passed.

Humans could have many life lessons to learn from observing the birds.
