June 14, 2023 Job - the hard way

Job Chapter 40 Job had it all - lost it all - lost his children, all of them; lost his lands, possession - all of them; even lost his wife. She advised him to curse God and die. His friends led him astray. God finally speaks after all the whinging in Chapter 38. In today's language - what are you talking about guys, Job? And then God reads them the riot act!

Job realizes his put his foot in his mouth. "I am unworthy. How can I reply to you?" Yup - been there, done that. God continues. Job finally says "Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know."

How do we discredit the God of the universe when He doesn't answer our prayers our way, or in a fashion we desire? I have been like Job - I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.

At the end of the story, Job prayed for his friends as God was angry with them. Ooops! Job's story had a happy ending - God blessed him more than before! Our story probably will not work out like that. Trusting that God is faithful some days just has to be more than enough.

June 13, 2023 - Real Men Pray

All too often we men consider the work of prayer to be in the affairs and concern of women only - how wrong can we be!! Solomon, the wisest man to ever live, felt prayer was so important he offered prayers at the dedication of the First Temple. 2 Chronicles 7 describes the effect of his prayer.

7 When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. 2 The priests could not enter the temple of the Lord because the glory of the Lord filled it. 3 When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the Lord above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, “He is good; his love endures forever.” 4 Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the Lord.

His prayer so was so effective that fire came down from heaven IMMEDIATELY and consumed all the burnt offerings and sacrifices!
